Our internet has been unreliable (I'm not sure how long it has been happening since I just got back from college) so I called the ISP. They said they detected that the connection had been sporadic so they sent over a technician. He installed a new connection from the telephone pole to the house and put in a new router just in case, but we're still having the same issues. Our connection works fine most of the time, but frequently becomes very slow or completely disconnects for brief periods of time. We live next to an apartment with lots of wifi signals so I'm wondering if it might be an issue of interference, so I downloaded inSSIDer to look at our signal strength and make sure we're on the best channel. Our router has automatically selected channel 1, and inSSIDer seems to confirm that is the best choice. Our signal strength pretty consistently stays between -50dBm and -55 dBm, with -60 dBm being the worst case scenario. I'm asking for advice because I don't know how good or bad those numbers are. Can I assume that the issues are being caused by signal interference or is it worth calling the ISP again?
Also, if the issue is interference, is there anything I can do besides using a wired connection or upgrading to a 5GHz router?
