"Application error" message

  Billy911 07:56 13 Dec 2008

When I start Win XP Pro I get many error messages that start:

(*name of program*) Application error

The instructionat "0x10015ff0" referenced memory at "0x00000005". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

If I click on OK everything seems to work fine (except Outlook). At first I thought the RAM had gone bad but this can't be the case as none of the programs would work. I've also ruled out a virus as it's rare I get these and the very few I have had have been caught by my anti-virus.

How many sticks of ram?
If more than one,try removing one, then try the other(s)by themselves,so as to eliminate ram as the cause.
I would try that first and then run memtest.
click here if it doesnt eliminate it.
I had same message but only had it with bluetooth connected, everything else worked fine turned out it was ram.

Thanks *Raven*

There are 2 sticks of RAM (512Mb each). I've tried swapping them around and using only one at a time but still with the same result.

I also run the memory tests which said the memory had passed.

Realplayer doesn't work now although Windows media player does (after throwing up the error message).

For some reason the messages have stopped!! I don't why because I haven't altered anything.
