Aol & Internet Connection Problem.

Hi,
Had a crap weekend with the pc and AOL in particular.
Lost connection with AOL and internet after AOL told me to do a quick restart to repair a problem.
After spending what seemed like hours with different idiots from AOL on the phone still could not connect.
I solved part of the problem last night.
But I'm left with 2 slight problems.
Uninstalled AOL and installed again. But still can't open AOL direct from there software.
Keep getting a window coming up, says AOL Connectivity not running.
Don't know if I have deleted something in uninstall I shouldn't have.
And another slight problem is that the only way i can get onto the internet to get on line to IE or Firefox is by clicking control panel then network and internet connections and then network connections followed by
clicking dialbb to connect or disconnect.
Hope that makes sense to you.

WINDOWS XP SP3 BROADBAND.
Thanks.

Why are you still with AOL For? They are nothing but problems and a waste of space. I was an AOL user sometime ago and I was sick to death with them, if I had an issue I was speaking to "idiots" in India who you can't understand.

So In the end I rang up for my Mac Code and I had it a few days latter in my mailbox.

I joined Entanet (Falconnet) they where really good but they went "bust" so some other company took over.

So at that time I had my Mac and joined ADSL24 who are an Entanet reseller. And as far as I'm concerned I have had no problems whatsoever. Excellent service the guy who runs ADSL24 is called James hes ace and really really helpful.

With ADSL24 you get No Traffic Shaping or Throttling. UK Based Support who know what they are on about. 8meg Max Speed you get different usage allowances I'm on 30/300gigs a month for £19.99 its excellent value

Before we go any further can you obtain and post your full Line stats what modem or router do you have??

Once you sussed out what modem/router you have goto this link.

Then go to Samknows click here Tell me what other services such as LLU you can get at your exchange. Post back the full results.

Cheers And Good Luck

Rob

Hi again Rob,
You helped me out awhile ago with my stat/modem issue.
And was much appreciated.
And yes I have come to the conclusion this afternoon that I shall change providers.
Whether it means paying a little more or not.
(get aol cheap)
Also received my MAC today from aol.
Unfortunately there is not a lot showing for me in Samknows,
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale SDSL
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
OnLincolnshire Broadband
But I will look around and see whats on offer,
anything but AOHell.
Thanks

Hi there thanks for coming back. Much applied I'm glad to help you out there.

Can you show me your line stats please?

Nice one for getting your Mac Code you done well there.

From what Samknows says there's not allot to offer there, as usual if there isn't allot to go on with the usual choice would be with with an Enta Reseller like ADSL24.

Like I said with ADSL24 You get:

1 month Contracts (So your not tied into nothing)
UK Based Support (Who know what they are on about)
8meg ADSL Max depending on your line
No Traffic Shaping or Throttling of any kind.

And For 19.99 a month for 30/300 you really can't go wrong!

Still using the old bt voyager 105 at the moment.
But when I change providers I shall hopefully get a new modem/router included.
May need your help again then.

With a 28.5 Attenuation you should be seeing the full 8meg at the moment with your stats you appear to be on a fixed 4meg speed.

I would get the Netgear DG834 its what I use now.

Meandher, I'm certainly not as technically compentent as Rob, but I recently had to install AOL on a new PC and had a few connectivity problems. I'm using my original BT Voyager 100 and initially couldn't get any connection when I installed from my original AOL8 and AOL9 CDs.

The help desk said that was because I needed the latest version of AOL and drivers, and they sent me a CD for AOL9VR which solved the problem. Even that didn't install without a small hassle -- the install program didn't update the modem drivers -- but once I'd found the BT100 drivers folder on the CD and updated the modem drivers everything was fine. And still is.
