Anyone know Postage of desktop to London?

  buel 17:04 26 Apr 2009

Hi, bit of a strange question for you all but does anyone have an idea of how much postage would be to deliver a desktop computer (maybe monitor too?) to London which is 181 miles away?Would i have to use a courier?
Thankyou in advance!

I'd use a courier, much easier to track.

Delivery charge will depend on both the size & weight of the parcel.

Here's some couriers I've used in the past.

Parcelforce: click here

DHL: click here

DPD: click here

Remember to pack the PC & monitor well, wrap in bubble wrap, tape all the joins on the box, and if you're re-using a box, cover any existing barcodes with blank stickers or tape (saves any possible misdirection if the auto-sort machines read the wrong barcode)

One very useful tip, take photographs of the PC before, during & after packing, they'll come in handy if the parcel gets kicked around a depot...

Would recommend parcel2go. Used them for a fairly heavy item which I sold on ebay - parcel2go only cost me 8quid- compare that Parcelforce!

Thanks for that, has anyone an idea of the weight of a standard desktop unit?

Totally depends on the quality of the PSU.

If you don't have kitchen scales, then weigh yourself with & without the PC...

If it is over 12 years old it can travel on the train on its own.

I may be more secure and cost effective to take it your self- did that once from Kent to Leicester- in the days before I started doing my own soldering[20 years ago]
