Any ideas why router won't work

  Daisy22 15:48 21 Jan 2011

My ISP is a company called Alsatis so the signal goes into a box a bit like a satellite dish.

I'm fine with getting internet and phone calls with the ethernet cable plugged in, but I bought a router and despite all my attempts it won't work.

I'm putting the ethernet cable from the router sent by Alsatis (which is required in order to use the telephone)into the Linksys Cisco router for enabling WiFi.

Any ideas why it won't work and what can I try.

"Alsatis. They are an Internet Service provider and they have been commissioned to find solutions to specific areas that cannot get ADSL via a landline.

They offer 4kb download speeds and an all exclusive telephone connection (presumably VOIP) which can apparently be configured to use your existing France Telecom/Orange number.

The system works by transmitting WiFi from prominent sites in the problem area. Signals are received using a fixed antenna linked to a modem (supplied by Alsatis). WiFi within the house can then be achieved using an appropriate router."

Is this the system you have?
What model router?
I think from the above you need a "CABLE" router rather than an "ADSL" router
