Have you tried it in Safe Mode?

Do you have Norton on you Drive?

  AL47 18:54 06 Jan 2009

no i havent, i will give it a go,

it just seems one of the first things to fail, can it just not cope with all the programs/applications being loaded?

  AL47 18:54 06 Jan 2009

no i dont use norton, do tey have something?

  woodchip 19:01 06 Jan 2009

Norton can stop System restore from working

  woodchip 19:05 06 Jan 2009

Try turning System Restore off then re-Enable it. You will lose any Restore points and it will create new ones

i only ever have one or 2 recent restore points [lack of hdd space] so is it still worth disabling and then enabling?

  canarieslover 19:19 06 Jan 2009

I think your last comment about lack of hard drive space may well be a clue as to why System Restore does not work for you. If you re-installed to try to cure it and you still have the same problem it points to something else other than the OS. If it was the OS then lots of other users would be reporting the same problem. Can't you fit a larger hard drive?

  AL47 19:26 06 Jan 2009

i originally reinstalled because updates werent working

its a laptop hard drive and is already quite large at 200gb

as of present it says it fails but it restores some things but not others

I thjink it merged into Norton
Is it still around?
Will it work with Vista?
