Am currently waiting for windows downloading another update again. Wonder if this is the patch for the update which slowed machines to a crawl. Or modified version of dodgy update? Just had a peek at update - 811493 For XP and Q815021 XP. Postponed install until tomorrow until I check back at this Forum to see if these fixes are good or bad.

Have been without electricity Major power fault in my area since 3.20 am this morning just got power back on a couple of hours ago. Needed to get my puter fix on PC Advisor site before off to bed.

811493 was, im sure was removed by microsoft.

i just looked at the windows update catalogue for XP, and 811493 is dated 27/05/03, so im guessing this is the 'improved version'.

but id wait for some confirmation of this before installing.

811493 installed 2 weeks ago, no problems.

On May 28, 2003, Microsoft released a revised version of the 811493 security update for Windows XP SP1 to address the previous problem.

from the update site, following the 'read more' click here takes to a download for a patch;

Windows XP Security Patch: Buffer Overrun in Windows Kernel Message Handling Could Lead to Elevated Privileges

im not sure if this is included or seperate.

i think im looking at same update,and not an extra patch.

bvw in bristol seems to of found the confirmation on the update being a new version.

perhaps they should of given it a new name/number.
