Another password problem

Yet another password problem ... there have been several posted recently.

I decided to get into msconfig to try and remove some of the start up applications which I think are slowing down my PC.

I can't change the startup progs from within msconfig unless I'm an administrator. The odd thing is that my computer only has one user, that's me, and my user name is described as an administrator.

I've tried logging is as administrator after pressing alt cntr del twice but I just get re-logged in under my user name. Very strange.

Any ideas?

You can only access the Administrator account in Safe Mode in Windows XP Home Edition.

Start in safe mode by pressing f8 as the computer boots, pick administrator to log on with, run msconfig from within safe mode.

Thanks both of you.

I did as you said and it has worked - I've been able to change msconfig startup....

BUT ...

The funny thing was even though I was now logged on as administrator, as soon as I tried to make changes to msconfig startup it still responded with "Access denied .... you may need to log on as adninistrator". Duh? I am the administrator!!!!

Silly things computers.

It worked though :-)
