I'm choosing my components for a PC and can go for either socket A ,or 754 AMD platforms ,both with an entry level Sempron.
Both are roughly the same price.

I know that AMD are stopping production of socket A CPUs soon.

I hear that the sata and pata performance difference is not that noticeable.

Is there more speed or features to be had from 754 or do they perform about the same please ?

Would the 754 platform be more overclockable ?

Its up to you of course but I wouldn't overclock, it stresses the components provides very little more speed invalidates your warranty and may destroy your PC. If I was getting a new PC I'd be looking for a socket 939 as this is the newer type for the new Athlon.

Entry level 939 is over budget @ £100

then its got to be 754.you can have sempron or 64 cpu`s.i have an msi k8n neo platinum at the moment...its a good board.changing to 939 soon though.if you go for sempron...3000+ is a good cpu at around £60.you can also get 64 3000 for around the same price on ebay.
