AMD Semperon cpu in an amd XP motherboard?

I have a problem with my PC. When it boots sometimes ok other times nothing happens, but the hard disc and the cd writer ligts are on.too control the cost I want to try a new cpu Semperon first.
The motherboard is Asus A7V266 is it possible to run with a socket A semperon of the same speed, I have seached for an XP 1800 and have drawn a blank

click here This shows that this board is for athlon & Duron but the sempron is the replacement for the Duron I think that it will take it I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I am wrong

Yes go for a sempron, they are just the new word for the old AthlonXP

your board Supports 600MHz up to 1733Mhz+ MHz processor and higher

If the Motherboard does not support the Semperon the you will be wasting your money. They are different architecture

As woodchip. A sempron will not fit into a A7V266 board.

You WILL be wasting your money. Look for a new board. Start at £20 and have a host of extra features over the old A7v266 board.
