Thanks for the reply...

I have always had AMD when i build my pc's...except my laptop with a celeron (as it was already built)..

I was going to get an AMD again but just thought i should check wether there is any point in Intel...

afterall, as you have said AMD is alot cheaper...is there any noticable differences with speed?

Thanks,

I'm not sure how the performance of the 2 chips compare but for value for money AMD wins every time.

outperform that of Intel.

A Athlon XP outperforms a celeron in server applications by miles.

Opteron processors from AMD outperform Xeons.

These are true stats from server farms!

AMD Cons:

Run hotter!

AMD pro's:

Perform well, cheap

Intel are good... but they dont do as much work per clock cycle, thus 3GHz Intel is slower than a AMD 3GHz.

Ah, thats good, i gues i will be sticking with AMD...Thanks for everyones replys...

Whats this new AMD 64 bit thing? What are the advantages..

Thanks again

No AMD Athlon, all versions, runs at anywhere near 3GHz. eg, Athlon xp 3200+ runs at 2.2GHz not 3.2GHz. The 3200 is an arbitrary speed rating showing, so AMD say, that it offers the performance of a 3.2GHz Pentium4.

Ah, sorry..i really dont know..

i usually just buy motherboard bundles.. i thought that a 3200+ ran at 2.8 - 3ghz..

sorry

What does the new 64 bit stuff do?

thanks
