Am I Crazy? (Re: unattended downloads)

Is it just me or do downloads slow significantly when a computer is left completely unattended for a while?

One day this week, I downloaded a file overnight. It was going at around 200-300 Kb/s when I went to bed. when I woke up and opened the laptop back up, it was doing around 30 but instantly began climbing to 350+ and the file completed in no time.

Now tonight, I started a download and it was going at 500 Kb/s. After leaving the laptop for maybe an hour and a half, I open the laptop to check the progress and it at 20ish again, but shoots straight back to 500 (well not straight but climbs at say, 50KB/s a second).

So, am I crazy? has anyone experienced this? What could be the explanation?

It driving me crazy!

Do you have any scans set to run when the system is idle? They may be starting up and hogging the resources.

Don't shut lid

shutting the lid can put machine into low power modes thus slowing the download.

When you shut the lid, it does not slow down. It Stops as the Laptop disconnects from the ISP
