AGP running slow

I have just installed a TNT2 M64 video card into a Gigabyte GA5AX mainboard. Hardly state of the art, but should be good enough for my grandaughter to run some games.
However, although the video card is rated at 2x, and so is the mainboard AGP slot, the Nvidia information on the display states that I only get x1 on AGP.
Is there anything I can do to speed it up to x2?
The mainboard manual gives no hint on "adjusting".

Look in the BIOS for a AGP Rate Setting
