Advice needed on Copying a CD

  Pesala 21:48 01 Feb 2004

I made some copies of a free CD to share with some friends. That worked fine, but then I tried saving a copy on my webspace using Windows Media Player Format. My friend tells me they cannot be played because they are encrypted. If I download them, I can play them, so what am I doing wrong?

The CD is copyrighted, but it clearly states on the last CD track, ".. for free distribution only, any reproduction in any form for sale is prohibited, however if you wish to share the suttas with your friends you may make additional copies."

So I am not asking for help in doing anything illegal. The last track is click here can anyone else play it, or is it only me?

Welcome to Windows Media Personal License Migration Service.

You have reached this page because you are attempting to do one of the following with content that was copied from CDs:

Restore the content on a computer or operating system that has been upgraded, or
Use existing content on another one of your computers.

If you re-install an operating system or install a completely new operating system on a computer on which you have previously maintained licenses, that computer will appear to be a new, unique computer to this service when you migrate licenses. However, upgrading the operating system will not change the identity of the computer as far as this process is concerned.

Any unauthorized use of the content may be a violation of the law, including U.S. and international copyright laws, and may subject you to civil and criminal prosecution.

If you wish to read our policy page, click the link above. If you want to migrate licenses now, click the Migrate License button. Otherwise, click Cancel.

VoG wins by a whisker.

So I guess I might as well give up on that idea, and will have to post copies to people. Unless someone can come up with a better solution. I haven't got space for an ISO image

Have you tried ripping the CDs to wma using a different method than WMP?[eg dbpoweramp]? I've just tried it and the media tag shows that it is not protected using this method, whereas your track I downloaded was.

I am not accustomed to ripping CDs and making music. I don't think I have any tools to convert *.cda or *.wma to MP3. I need to rest now. I will check out the thread again tomorrow and have a look at other solutions like dbpoweramp
