advice on msconfig and sytmtray

Can anyone explain what programs you need in the start up in windows xp home?

In msconfig /start up, there are quite a few programs and I wonder how many of these do I really need?

If I untick the ones I don’t think I need would I still be able to access them by clicking on their icon?

I have read you must not untick sytmtray or explorer.

Also I now have 9 icons in the left hand bottom task bar do I need all of them?

Can anyone point me in the direction to a site that identifies the programs in msconfig

Many thanks again for any advice
