advice buying win xp abroad

hey all,

i've been asked about buying win xp, and noticed that on amazon's U.S site, it's a lot cheaper than buying here.

does anyone have any advice on this?

From my experience with Amazon, I think the normal procedure is that their overseas companies will only supply an item if it is not available from the UK one. Even then, they prefer that you buy it through the UK branch.

As Amazon UK sell it, I very much doubt that the US company would export it for you.

You will find that a large number of American retailers refuse to export their goods.

If you have friends/family/relations in the US then have them buy it for you and post it over. I buy most of my software and hardware this way as it is much cheaper, however you do run a risk if the goods are faulty as exchange is difficult. Alternatively for downloadable software if you can arrange to have a US dollar account and a US address then most US suppliers will allow you to download because there are no currency exchange problems.
