Advert stuff....

Can't believe this is classed as a "problem", but for me it is....!

Basically ad banners aren't showing on my screen, or loading, when I visit certain websites. While this might not be a problem normally, it is when you are trying to enter internet lotteries and other such things when you do actually want to click on the adverts!

I'd welcome any ideas / advice anyone has about this - is there some type of software I've disabled too well etc that could be causing this?

Are you running Antivirus software?

Sound to easy, but Ad blockers?

  so3003 21:02 23 Jan 2003

Well I run AVG antivirus and Zonealarm, but have run both programs for ages (years) before the "problem" showed itself.... so I don't think it could be them?

I do have ad-aware, which I have previously used to uninstall spyware components (months ago), but presumably anything necessary to view a banner and click it would either be a) intrinsic to IE 6.0 or b) downloaded as needed?

i think has pop-up and advert stopper

No i dont mean Ad Blockers that are related to spyware i mean a program that stops ads appearing like pop ups.

I dont use AVG so cant help there, if its the free version of ZA then there are no settings in there that can stop ads showing.

Try and repair Internet Explorer...

Windows 98 > Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Selcet Microsoft internet Explorer > Add/Remove then select the repair option.

Windows XP > Pop the XP disc in and type...

into the run command and let it do what it does.

Do you have javascript enabled?, also try for latest updates for windows.
If all else fails try a re-install of I.E.6.

Beaten by a quicker (and better) posting.

Thanks everyone. To answer the questions:

- No popup blocker
- Free version of AVG
- Free version of Zonealarm
- Javascript is enabled

Hopefully it'll resolve once I try to fix IE!

(hope this posts, last attempt gave me an error!)
