ADSL slower on XP than win98se

I've just connected my freeserve BB modem to my new xp pc and its transferring data at only about 120kbps.

On my win98se pc i'd get a transer rate of 450kbps (after using tweakmaster).

I've retried tweakmaster on my xp pc and i'm only getting about 1/4 speed.

Any ideas?

I think 98 has a differnet monitor than XP it should be the same speed but just different figures becuase they monitor it in different ways, I think 98 logs the speed it connects with the mobo and XP the speed it connects with ISP.

Not sure,

someone here will know.

try click here this may have a few optimisations for you.

but i'm checking my speed by actually downloading a file and timing it versus file size and also by checking at adslguide.org.uk

my DUN appeares under Dial Up and if I go to the properties it says its connecting via IDSN.

Should it not be under the Broadband or highspeed internet part of network connections?

Yes, if it is broadband.

I'm not convinced. it looks as though the BB option is for ethernet connection and as I'm still using an ADSL dial up modem I have to use the dial up option.

But why am I now getting half the speed on xp comapared to 98?
