I have just signed up with BT Yahoo Broadband with the 'package' is a free modem Can I use a Belkin 7230UK wireless router - 4 ports plus wireless 802.11G with this modem? or do I need to get a combined modem/router like the Belkin FSD7630UK4A. Also is the new type PCMCIA card compatible with the older standard PCMCIA I want to use my 3 year old Laptop 'wireless'. alternative is to use a USB WIFI adaptor.

Whether you can use the modem with the router depends on the interfaces they have. Its likely that the router will only provide the option to connect using an ethernet port and not support USB, which is the likely interface of the modem. If they share the same interface then they should work together.

I would have thought that the cards would be compatible but I don't know for sure.

The newer cards are 32 Bit CardBus PCMCIA is 16 bit so may be a problem?
