adsl installation

Hi, I run a property management comapny and am having adsl installed for one of my clients, who lives overseas. I need to know whether when he arrives he can just plug the adsl into his laptop and it works or whether his computer will have to be configured to work with the adsl? I will not have his pc there at the time of installation. If it does need configuring whats involved? Also they send the modem in the post and you configure it yourself, how hard is this?
I am talking about a non wireless connection at this stage.

He will need to load the software from the CD sent with the hardware (Modem) - these days these installation discs run you through everything so the only other thing he will need is the username and passwords which will be supplied. About twenty minutes from start to finish.
