ADSL Guide broadband speed test

I have just run an ADSL Guide speed test a short while ago. click here
What I was wondering was, is my result 'acceptable' for a 1mb connection?
My result was "Downstream 906 Kbps (113.3 KB/sec) 978 Kbps (inc. overheads)"

I am just wondering if the 906 kbps is a bit SLOW as on my Windows taskbar, I have an "UpStream/DownStream Rate (kbps): 288/1152" message which, I think, includes the overheads figure?

Generally speaking, should the overheads speed results be ignored?
p.s. I used to get results in the range of 920 - 940 kbps until a recent AOL Connectivity Service download, but I am not worried about this!

Hi, looks about right I think. I just did a check - my adsl 512kbps Result = Down 458 Kbps,
Up 242 Kbps (Actual speeds)

Cheers

Thanks. My speed results must be about right then.
To be honest I think it is WRONG to advertise a 512 kb or 1 mb service as that, when you NEVER achieve this figure due to overheads and 50:1 contention ratios!
Enough of my moaning! LOL

Hi, right - couldn't agree more, but I guess we are stuck with it. No big deal though!

Cheers.
