Adobe PDF Files & IE

  PO79 15:14 01 Jul 2009

When I visit certain sites like British Gas, I can see my bill by downloading a PDF file, which should display on the screen. This is not happening and I cannot review my bill. This is an IE problem as I can achieve what I want in Firefox no problem, however I prefer to use IE. I have tried both IE7 and IE8 with all updates, and Adobe 8 & 9 in all combinations. I am sure this is just a security setting, but for the life of me I can't find it. Any ideas please.

Download and install the latest version of Adobe:

All PDF files should then open on demand.

Your link is flagged as a dangerous site by AVG Pro, but thanks anyway. As stated I have tried Adobe 9 to no avail. Any more ideas please.

You could also try another pdf reader. Foxit is my favourite because it is much quicker than Adobe. click here

QuizMan - Thanks, tried it set to default PDF reader, still the same.

crosstrainer - Got it, installed and updated, still the same, only get a blank screen and no PDF file.

Must be an IE setting somewhere as it happens on my lappy as well as my desktop, in all flavours of windows XP Vista and 7. I think I heard that either Adobe or MS issued an update to prevent PDF's from opening as a malicious script could run from with the PDF without the user knowing. There must be a way to overide for trusted sites but I just cannot find it.

Try reseting IE

GOTO - tools - internet settings - advanced tab - click on reset button.
