Hi, How can I give myself administration rights on my own laptop, I am running vista home premium .....Thanks

You will be the administrator, but in Vista will always run as a Standard user. That's how it works.
The administrator account in Vista is hidden by default.
That's why you often have to choose Run as Admin or tell it to continue with certain operations.

I am having problems opening a prgram someone gave me, it installed ok but when I TRY AND OPEN IT it tells me that I need administrative rights??

Right click the icon, select properties, under the compatibility tab make sure 'run as administrator' box is ticked. Vista will only ask permission for the program to run next time you open it.

You may not need to go as far as rdave13 suggests. Right click on the icon and near the top you should find "Run as administrator".

rdave13's way should set it to open every time.
