Additional ext. on files in My Documents Folder

The files in MY Documents Folder have somehow picked up a further extension with the result they cannot be opened. This ext. is ".H~F~N"
to take an example: Tax Return.doc has now become "Tax Return.doc.H~F~N"

I cannot identify this extension nor open these files.

I would be obliged if someone could help me recover/open my files.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Brennan.

Have tried the simple thing. Rename that folder back to Tax Return.doc then scan it with antivirus software before you try and open it.

This extension cannot be identified nor can the files be opened. No virus can be found using Norton AV and the machine is protected by Norton Internet Security Pro 2004.
The extension has been cganged and the file name changed but to no avail

Go to windows explorer and find the "My docs folder" on the tool bar click tools >folder options>view then scroll down till you see "hide extensions for all file types" unchecked this box>apply then OK, this will reveal the file extn to the document you have highlighted and want to change, then hit F2 and rename the relevant files.

When complete reverse order to hide extns again.

Hope this works.
