Can anyone tell me if my Motherboard will support a USB2 PCI card?. The pc is over 4 years old now, Packard Bell IXTREME 9507. Cosmos (GA8IDMNF) rev1.0 atx motherboard. Chipset Intel i845 I have bought an external USB2 hard drive for back up, which works fine (but slow) as i only have USB1 on my pc. Thanks
I installed a USB2 PCI card in my PC. PCChips 810LMR which has four USB 1.1 ports. Although the Card installed OK and is recognised it still only runs at USB1.1 speed. So, I guess my MOBO won't support USB2, or possibly because I'm still running Win 98SE.
As I understand it, it's only the very old computers that predate the PCI 2.1 standard that can't handle USB2 data speeds. Also some USB2 cards using VIA chipsets have problems with some motherboards that also use VIA chipsets. Because of this I bought this USB2 card that has a NEC chipset click here, and found it an absolute doddle to fit and have had no problems at all using it.
