Adding second HDD-help needed

  claluc 16:15 22 Nov 2008

Have scrapped a PC from which I have recovered Maxtor 20GB HDD which is new(ish) and perfectly working.(I have drivers diskette)
Would like to install this in another PC that has an 80GB HDD to increase HDD size.
I had some notes on how to do it but have lost them, I need some advice.

Other than configuring 2nd drive to slave and connecting EIDE plug to this position what else is recommended?
Master PC running on XP SP2, old drive has WIN98SE + various other software on it, do I need to format blank or can Win98 stay? In either case what is course of action?

Once installed you can format the hard drive

Not much to add to the above. Just be sure that you get the IDE cable plug in the right way round - Pine 1 (red edge of the cable) should be on the power plug side.

If you want to use the drive to increase your HDD capacity, I shouldn't bother to keep Win98. Just format the drive.

I'm not sure what your drivers diskette is. You shouldn't need this.

Sorry. Pine = Pin !
