adding extra ram

hi i assumed that i slotted in the extra ram stick and that was all,however nothing has happened. what do i tweak

what are you expecting to happen,if you click on start,control panel,system,performance it will tell you how much ram you have

You shouldn't have to tweak anything as your PC should automatically detect any correctly installed RAM.

I'm sure that if you post a few more details you will get help from the experts here.

thanks for the input yes have checked performance still saying 64 hasnt recognised anything new

oh by the by yes we are old -at least 4years originally witk ME upgraded to xp hence want extra umph only got a 700 celeron speed ,60mb hdd did get the stick from a computer fair so no details available

if you put diferent types of ram in they wont work together

how much ram is on your new stick,have you tried removing the old one and checking your performance with just the new one in to see if it is working
