Adding a DVD burner

I plan to get an internal DVD burner shortly. I already have 3 HDDs, so it will go onto the spare plug on the second IDE cable.

Is it preferable for the burner to be master or slave when sharing an IDE cable with an HDD?

Don't think you'll get it to work as a slave. It will function as a reader/player but not as a writer.

You may be better of doing as I have and installing a PCI IDE card which will give you four more IDE connections and the ability to arrange your IDE devices more on conventional lines. click here

Thanks £d. I'll set it up as master first and see how it goes.
