Adding another HDD to PC

Previously running win 7, but now running win 8.1, & have had a recent desktop rebuild, new mobo, SSD, PSU, all working fine & dandy. Left over from previous desktop (on win 7) I have a 1tb HDD (SATA). Can I just connect this to the new mobo or is there anything specifically which I should look out for? Just thought I'd check with the gurus before I go ahead adding more storage.

You can just connect it up and it should appear under My Computer.

Once connected I would copy any info from it, format the drive, and then use it for storage.

Formatting will remove the W7 OS
