Add new hardware wizard in xp home

  Logov 07:54 21 Nov 2010

Whenever I connect a usb device that has not been previously installed on my pc the add new hardware wizard pops up as you'd expect. However, the wizard then flickers (its the best way I can describe it) backwards and forwards between two pages very quickly, several times a second. This is how it stays with me being unable to move the process forward as the wizard becomes totally unresponsive. Subsequently I cannot install any usb device whatsoever. To reiterate, this issue is related to any USB device I attempt to install.

Is there a fix for this or perhaps a way around using the wizard to install usb devices?

Use USB deview to clean the registry of all USB device that are NOT connected abd then retry the installation

Thanks for your response.
Downloaded usbdeview and did as you suggested but it hasn't resolved the issue. Perhaps the only difference is that the 'flickering' isn't quite so fast.

Maybe you need to repair your op system.

Type sfc / scannow in the run (search) box and let windows find and replace any missing or corrupt windows files.

Did you reboot the pc after you had used USB deview?
If not then maybe you should.
