AdAware and Surfairy

Hi all.

I have just updated and run AdAware SE personal (free) and lo and behold it has only now decided Surfairy is to be chucked. I have had Surfairy installed with Windows XP as it came packaged with Packard Bell software and it's in the Smart Restore Folder.

Why only now, is it in AdAware, and what ought I to do?

You should be able to remove it from Control Panel, Add or Remove programs.

Thanks anskyber, just read that.

VoG, I don't see in in Add/Remove; I haven't seen it in there despite the number of times I've had to reload XP from scratch. I can only find it in Smart Restore.

I'm curious about it because I used to have Spybot and AdAware installed and of the two, it was Spybot that found it.

Should I stop it in Smart Restore or simply use AdAware to halt it?

Surfairy How to Remove?

You can click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, select the 'Surfairy' entry and remove it.

It can also be manually removed by the following steps:

1. Open a DOS command prompt window (from Start->Programs->Accessories) and enter the following commands:

For the Hlp variant:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Surfairy\SurfairyHelp.dll"

Or, for the PP variant:

cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\Surfairy\SurfairyPP.dll"
2. Restart the computer.
3. Delete the Surfairy folder inside Program Files.
4. Open the registry editor (Start->Run->regedit) , find and delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Surfairy.
