I am trying acronis but I wonder if anyone on here may have a solution for me ?? I have done a restore but i can't boot up ( it might be something I done I don't know) but these are the messages I am getting when I try to boot up.
*********
"INSPECTING WINDOWS XP PREVIOUS INSTALLATION"
Then I get a WINDOWS PROFESSIONIAL SPLASH SCREEN !! (Note I have windows
Home Edition)
Then I get the big blue screen of death.....the information on which is as
follows..........

STOP C000021A (FATAL SYSTEM ERROR)
The session manager initialization system Process Terminated unexpectedly
with status of.......
0XC000003A (0X00000000 0X00000000)
THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN........
*******
I just don't know what to do to get back online on my own PC

Regards

It sounds like you put the Image on another Partition or you told it to, as it looks like you now have two copies of XP on your computer

You could use CD again and choose C:\ drive to restore Image to. This will overwrite any OS on C:

<<"I am trying acronis but I wonder if anyone on here may have a solution for me ?? I have done a restore but i can't boot up">>

Can you detail from the beginning everything that you have done so far, as it is a bit unclear.

And at the stage you are now - is that when booting up with the Acronis CD?

Thanks woodchip you were correct...I did do another restore before i wrote but tried it again and this time noticed I was suppose to check the box that says active partition anyway all is now fine.. but I am still not to clear how I managed that... still thanks again.....

PS I don't think I am in a position to help lotvic really perhaps he should explain it to one of you experts !!!!!

  Sea Urchin 22:50 04 Aug 2009

lotvic was asking you to explain exactly what you'd done and/or not done so that he could offer you some guidance. But since you are sorted that won't now be necessary.

I should just add that lotvic can certainly be considered as very much "one of the experts".

>>Then I get a WINDOWS PROFESSIONIAL SPLASH SCREEN !! (Note I have windows

How can Acronis make this mistake? I have had a number of problems with Acronis but never this!

  lotvic 00:11 05 Aug 2009

I didn't know it actually said PROFESSIONIAL I thought splash screen just said XP whether it was home or pro version?

  lotvic 00:30 05 Aug 2009

ignore my last post, it's getting late ;-]

anyway OP seems to be sorted now :)

Sea Urchin, Awww gee, Woodchip should be proud of me now.

(twas from Woody I started my learning curve when I had 98se... thanks Woodchip :))

PROFESSIONAL comes up as a result of loading windows Updates SP 1,2,3.

That's why if you type in the run box on a XP Home edition

SFC /SCANNOW it asks for the XP PROFESSIONAL CD

Ah, of course, thank you.
Duly put in my notes :))
