Acronis TI; how long to back up?

I have about 80GB data/programs on the internal 250 GB HDD, and when I do a full backup to an external USB2 HDD it takes several hours. Is this normal?
(It's an older pc; socket A Athlon XP 2100+, Win XP SP3)
Would it make any difference if AVG is running?

I would think that is normal, 80 GB data/programs plus OS is a lot to backup via USB. You I assume are also using "Validate" backup.
You didn't say how many hours, but 3 or 4 would not surprise me.

AVG should make no difference.

It took about 4 hours, so it sounds about right.

I do validate the backups; that too seems to take quite a while.

How much quicker would it be via e-sata?
How much quicker on a new Core 2 Duo pc?

Quicker Backing up to a Partition then copy to external drive

Woodchip

sounds interesting. Would TI still be able to find the backup in a disaster recovery situation?

Yes. PS I am talking about a Image, not incremental backup
