I have been given the task to learn about Access 2002 and if need be find a course to attend to get the basic knowledge of how to set up a database.

Can anyone help/advise of the best course to attend?
Is there a good idiots guide that anyone can recommend?

Pop down to your local Technical College they'll have the info (some even offer free basic courses on IT subjects)

You can always ahave a look click here too

Most local colleges and libraries will be able to help with course details.

The problem will be in finding something purely Access related.

CLAIT and ECDL deal with Access but they also cover the entire Office suite, so are not Access only.

There are some online course available but I've not found one for Access that I'm entirely happy about recommending yet.

I'd try your local sources first and see where you get.

If you would like some web links that offer Access information and some tutorial material then post again to that effect.

Don't know how suitable something like this would be:

I know out the local FE College to me (click here) if you do the Word/Excel Microsoft Office Specialist course in a year (takes 30 hours I think) you can do the Access/Powerpoint(?) one for free - cost about £80.
