I was wondering, how much difference in game speed would you notice between a 9600 card running in an 8x AGP slot and a 4x AGP slot? Assuming all other system specs are identical.

Probably not in current games but as time goes on, newer games may require the faster speed.

From what I've read on the subject very little, but I've never actually tried it myself. All the articles I've read say there is very little performance difference between the two.

Just curious as i have bought Far Cry (the best looking game in the world, Half life 2 will have to go some to beat this)and every now and then frame rates are a little slow. I run a middle of the road system with 4 x AGP and was wondering if this was the 'bottleneck'.

MAybe... but I am not into games so don't really know.

Though according to MSI my motherboard will run an 8x AGP card as 8X if everything is configured correctly. sounds like a tall story to me though (its an MSI KM2M Combo board).

difference is unreal x8 agp gives you 533mhz which will give a much better running game

"will run an 8x AGP card as 8X" - I hope so! :-}

tony1160 sounds like a gamer - good to hear a real opinion.

Hmmm, this may be a little bit of a pain then as i like my MoBo but at a third the price of the graphics card its a bit of a false econonmy if its slowing everything down!!

you need a card which supports the x8 agp and board ,this is the max trust me ,i use the GA7N400pro click here
