I am thinking of buying the D-Link DSL-G604T 54Mbp Wireless ADSL Router w/DWL-G122 USB Adapter.

Is the 802.11g standard what I should be looking for?

All I want to do is have my PC away from my telephone socket.

I am a novice, so do you know of any good simple networking guides on the internet for dummies please??

Many thanks

for general browsing 802.11b is more than enough, i have a 1 mbit broadband connection and often achieve 150 kbps! download speed so 802.11b is more than fast enough for my browsing needs, however, if i want to share a file with the desktop it can take an age if it's large and therefore i'm considering upgrading to 802.11g.

As for networking guides, you've already got one, this forum, let usknow what gear you plump for and someone will guide you through.

802.11g is backwards compatible so yeah its a good idea to go for that. Get the kit and use the software it ships with. If you have problems post here. click here for a guide.

re Speed - even 802.11b is 11 times faster (11 megabits a second ) than a 1meg broadband connection so your speed of browsing is limited by the BB connection not your Wifi card ...
