600K NTL Broadband

I am planning on possibly connecting to NTL 600K broadband. Few questions:

1. Do you get a PCI or plug in modem, or can you choose. (I have no PCIs left)

2. How reliable is this (I have heard bad stories) :-s

and 3. How fast do you actually download at? (it says on the website possible 600Kbps)

Thanks. Ben

1. External Cable Modem which you can connect via either USB or Ethernet Cable

2. It's very reliable, We have had broadband for a year or so and the only time it was seriously hampered was when the lovsan/blaster worm virus was floating around.

3. 64k per second.

The only thing I will say if you are going to get it is make sure that you have all the relevant numbers (account no, setup disc and a letter with the PIN number) BEFORE the installation engineer leaves the house. These guys seem to specialise in forgetting to handover the paperwork.

Also, bear in mind that NTL telephone support is absolute garbage. Expect to spend a minimum of 45 minutes on hold before you even get to speak to a person, you will then be transferred around various depts seemingly at random.

In summary, it's a great product/price but with non-existant service.
