I don't know if this will help you, but i purchased a MSI 52x writer and it only burned at 40x or their abouts so i changed my CD ROM to a 56x and changed over to easy cd6 now i can burn up to 52x.

Both 40x and 52x are plenty fast enough. Why this desire to get things done so quickly?

There are many threads on here complaining that CDs are not being written correctly and the advice given often is to reduce the writing speed. As well as that, even 40x rotational speeds are extremely fast and there are some great forces generated within the disk such that slight balance faults in the disk can cause huge vibration and stress that the disk destroys itself and in doing that, quite possibly destroys the CD burner with the flying pieces.
