I have a Lacie 500 gig drive and intend to use it for Backup. It is formatted FAT32. Should I reformat to NTFS and if so how long would it take? The procedure for a reformat would be helpful as well as the only thing I have formatted before is a RW CD. My current Backup Drive is small and a backup takes 17 gig per run.OS is Vista
In short, yes. NTFS allows for larger file/folder sizes. Here's how to do it:click here
All about NTFS:click hereFormatting and partitioning can (almost certainly) be done with the Seagate/Maxtor Disk Wizard freeware (a lite version of Acronis). See:click here
It formatted my 400GB Seagate OneTouch external hard drive from FAT32 to NTFS in a matter of a few seconds...:-)You can also extend the maximum partition capacity size if necessary (to more than 137GB) with a simple click.
Thanks for helpJak_1 My system is Vista but I get the idea I think.
Format completed- Thanks for contributions
