32bit or 64bit

  Garthyy 18:25 09 Sep 2010

Going to have to change my laptop soon but it will mean windows 7. If Igo 64bit will files saved on my desktop, 32bit, be compatible and viceversa. Can I send files through my router from one pc to the other?
As long as they can work side by side and move files across is what I need.

Files aren't a problem they will transfer.

The only real problem is finding 64 bit drivers for our old Hardware such as printers scanners etc.
but only if your equipment is more than a couple of years old.

Just got a new oki printer so drivers no problem for that. Will need new office suite too. I asuppose no point in downgrading windows7 to xp because of limited support forxp

Why do you need a new office suite?

32bit progs will run on 64bit machine

Run the tool for 64 bit. I have w7 64 bit on a 3 year old PC, no problems. Some programmes load in 32 bit format and work ok.Advantage of 64 bit is to be able to use more than 3.5 Gig RAM.

I have the Office 2007, but there is a good freebie also _ Lotus symphony , the spreadsheet of which is compatible with MS.

I didnt think they would run on 64bit machines.
Another question, if I may, my wife has an old program she insists on using which works on xp pro will it work on windows7?

Run the above tool to find out. What is the programme? The only one I "lost" was Lotus Suite.
Or just Google : Will xxx run in Windows 7?
