2nd hand hdd

  dkuk2000 17:48 03 May 2004

I've just got my hands on a 2nd hand hdd but it is password enabled (via windows).
After formating the disk and installing windows i get prompted for a password (administrator).
Is there any way i can get around this problem ?.

Have you fdisked it as well?

Bit weired this, was the original version XP or 2000? If it was (and it must be) how have installed ME over the top?

I've fdisk and still the same.
It was windows 95 on the hard drive.

Admin password in Windows 95?? do you not mean the BIOS

I can access the bios no problem.
The problem is when windows loads it comes up with a user name and ask's for a password.
When i formatted the hdd it didn't seem to fully format.

Use an easer program such as Killdisk click here to "kill" anything on HDD.

Personally, I would not touch 2nd HDD since new one is so cheap now. If the disk failed, the time ypu spend to try to get back your stuff will be 10 times more expensive than the money you saved. 20Gb £34 click here

This may be the standard logon window you always get after installing Windows? Just leave the password blank, press OK & you should then get into the desktop. The logon window shouldn't come back next time.

I think pipedream may be spot on. Try as instructed.

still the same :(
I think it used to be used within a network if that would make a difference.
