dell 9200 6600 cpu 2gb ram
7900gs video card

looking at upgrading graphics card to
a 4850 or 9800 gtx

but just want to find out if increasing the memory
would bo worth doing

Depends on your Windows version. XP won't benefit much, Vista will make better use of it. Memory is so cheap at the moment though - why not upgrade. I upgraded from 2GB/7900GS to 4GB/9800GT recently (Vista Ultimate), my system is much quicker. Couldn't play GTA 4 at all before...)

As you are running Windows XP, I would say 2GB is plenty of ram, more would not make a noticeable difference.

Like brundle, Im running Vista Ultimate but not being a gamer, Mine is only a Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz and an Nvida Geforce 9600 GT graphics card with 512MB of DDR3. I also have 2GB DDR3 System RAM.
Today my PC almost ground to a halt whilst running an AVG scan!
When I looked, I had 2 instances of IE 7 running with 5 tabs open in each, plus "Word", plus Photoshop elements!
No wonder! Checking "Resource Mgr." Ihad "hard faults" running into the thousands!!
It's made me consider another 2GB of RAM, but people say that anything more than 3GB is wasted on a 32 bit OS.
Is that right?

Putting in the maximum amount of RAM will certainly prove of benefit.

Well, at the time, the cost of the bits came to £500+ when I had budgeted for £250 lol, so I didn't have the readies to go for the faster chips!
I'm well satisfied with its performance though, just stunned when it couldn't cope this afternoon.
I don't know a lot, but I think it was the amount of RAM tha dragged it down, rather than the CPU, on account of the number of hard faults

for xp a graphics card with 1g of ram, for vista 4g of ram.
