This is what memory I have. What is the difference between PC2-5300 and PC2-6400

""Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300, DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 1GB per slot.* *Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.
• Maximum Memory Capacity: 2048MB
• Currently Installed Memory: 1GB
• Available Memory Slots: 1
• Total Memory Slots: 2
• Dual Channel Support: Yes
• CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
• CPU Family: Intel(R) Celeron(R) M CPU 520 @ 1.60GHz Model 15, Stepping 6
• CPU Speed: 1596 MHz

The difference is speed at which the RAM functions.
PC2-5300 runs at 667MHz, PC2-6400 at 800MHz. However if you mix the modules it will all run at the lower speed, so adding faster RAM to a PC with slower has no benefit in speed, you should upgrade with the standard you have or replace it all.

Looks like your MB limits you to 2g ram total so no point putting in more and only 1g perslot according to your specs.

I bought an extra 1gb of ram from Crucial but had to return it as laptop would not reconise it. This is why I thought to install a 2gb or 1gb kit.
Don't know what to do.

Are you sure you installed it correctly - it has to be pushed home very firmly? If you used the Crucial scanner then you should have ended up with the correct memory.

yes, if I used the new one in slot on its own it was reconized but not when the 2 installed

Did you check BIOS to see if it was necessary to make a change for the extra RAM to be recognised?

Someone else had a similar problem to you click here. Anything here help?

I also found this, click here where there is a comment at the end that refers to enabling recognition.
