I am trying to find out if it is possible, or wise to fit a sata laptop drive straight into a desktop computer also using sata connections. I am trying to recover some files from a friends laptop and don't really want to buy an external enclosure if I don't have to.
Regards
Steve

You can also use a transfer cable like this one. I paid £14.95 for mine so it is £2 cheaper now.

I asked at a local computer shop, and they also said it should be OK so I bought a sata data cable and plugged the drive into the desktop. All was well and the files have been recovered. Again thanks for your answers.
