2 PC's and broadband

My friend is about to be getting broadband and he's a bit confused on something...

He has 2 PC's that can be networked together, and he was wondering how he could get broadband on both PC's. Would this be accomplished by connecting the 2 PC's together, buying a second modem, etc?

Any help would be great!

Thanks :)

Problem. Only one of his PC's is XP. Also, the last time they tried to network the PC's together it went completely wrong, so they've said that netowrking isn't an option :S

Thanks for the advice anyway :)

Hi, Best to use an 'Ethernet Router' that way both machines can use the internet independently. Cat 5 straight through cable from modem to router, Cat 5 straight through cables from router to both machines. If you go for the cable connection between two computers, the computer coupled to the modem has to be on to allow the second computer to access the internet. cheers, Bill

Goto click here for a 4 port ADSL modem & router, at the moment it's just short of £40.

Simply plug this into the ADSL phone splitter, and plug both PC's into the router with straight through CAT5 cable (you get one in the box, so you will need to buy another one), run the setup routine & Bob's your mother's brother.

If you pop along to Origo's website they've just released a firmware update to turn it into a firewall, so you don't even need to use Zone Alarm.

As for networking XP & ME, it should be quite easy, just run the wizard in XP, let it create a wizard disk & run it in the ME PC. The most common networking failure is using a straight through cable between 2 PCs, you need to use a crossover cable when directly connecting PCs.
