Hi everyone, I have 2 devices that for some reason will not show in "My Computer" window.
One is a camera which I can access from a desktop shortcut and it shows who is at the front door so I know it works OK.
The other is a USB connected HDD which I cannot access, both show in "Device Manager" as working OK.
Any ideas please as I find this odd.

Does the drive have any data on it? Is it formatted?
Can you see the drive in disk management ?you may need to assign a drive letter.

I would not expect the camera to show in My computer as it is not a storage device.

Ok thanks fruitbat, I have two cameras, one shows in My Computer and one does not but I can see your point here.
I do not know what is on the HDD if anything so I will try assigning a letter.
thanks Ray

So how do I do this?

right click my computer > manage > disk management. the drive should be there.

The other camera that is in my computer might have a memory card that is showing.

I am not too bothered about the camera as it works anyway but I would like to see the HDD, it does not show in disk management but it shows as working in device manager, this is what is puzzling me.

has it got a drive letter if not then assign ne if it has then the MBR is corrupt and if there is no data worth recovering just format it in disk management.

OK thanks again fruitbat, it does not appear to have a drive letter, how do I assign one? or format it if I cannot access it in the first place
Tricky one, thanks for your help.

Drive is an 80gig Maxtor which would be quite handy as a backup medium if I could only access the thing.
Not worried about losing any data that may be on it.

Right click My computer - manage - storage - disk management.

right click the drive - what options do you have on the right click menu for that drive?

Yuo should be able to initialise / assign drive letter/ format .
