hi, what is suppose to be the first boot device, just fitted a new hard drive, which seems to be ok, but i get,on start up, words to the effect,

"cd rom boot device failure", I found my way into setup, and it listed the floppy as boot device.

if it is suppose to be the cdrom, how do you change it.. thanks

You can have any device you want as the boot device. If you know you wont need to boot from a floppy or cd, you can change it to your HDD. But if you need to boot from floppy or cd just change it back

Theres not much point of having FDD as boot option 1 if you use XP.

HDD will always suffice unless you have to boot from FDD (Win9X) or CD (WinXP)

hi. mine is win98se..

That being the case if you where to leave a floppy in the drive then re-boot you would get, disk error etc and you would have to remove the disk.

Personally I used to run with FDD first as I was always booting from floppy but as Elrond says any will do.
