I have just been called by a friend saying he has a new 180gb hdd and wants to install XP on it. His bios picks up the full size of the hdd but when running the XP setup it only allows him to see about 130gb.

Any ideas???

I think he needs 48bit LBA addressing to support over around 130Gb. This may help click here And i also think he will need Service pack1 installed.

I will let him know about SP1, but I am unsure about the link you give as he can't actually install XP on the full 180gb and the website says about changing the registry of an installed version of XP!

I wouldn't think he would want to install it all on a single partition anyway - I suggest he at least divides it onto half, and installs XP on the first half. He can format the other bit later on when XP is up and running.
