Hi, I reformatted a computer today using the recovery disks from another computer because I didn't have them for the computer I was reformatting. Everything went fine but when the computer loads and the desktop comes appears it is only in 16 colours and uses a 640 x 480 resolution. When I go to display it won't allow me to change it. Can anyone please help me because I broke my sister's computer and I am ment to have fixed it all. Thanks

You need to install the appropriate graphics drivers, the machine is using the generic windows drivers which allow only 16 bit coloor and a resloution of 640 x 480.

Sounds like a mising driver. Check in device manager for any yellow question marks. You are probably only using the windows default driver

bryrach - you could try putting your recovery disc in then try to search for a better driver, selecting cd-rom as the source

Do you know if your graphics are 'on board' ie on the motherboard or a seperate graphics card?

I don't know but it is quite old.

Post details of the computer and we may be able to work it out

It's a 4gb Intel Pentium II Tulip Computer. Apart from that I don't know anything else because as I say, it's not my computer.

Go to this site click here and download Belarc Advisor, this will give you a detailed breakdown of the machine. Post back details of the motherboard and graphics
