I have this feeling it may well be a buggy MS update or a Spybot SD update but have no proof.

After posting to the previous thread i actually encountered this error on one of my machines.

And at that time i had only updated Spybot SD and the usual MS updates.

I have scanned for Malware/Spyware and Viruses and am clean.Hence i think its a problem with an update.

Shutdown and reboot the PC.

Can you enlighten a bit more please,

Your advice that i do not doubt for one minute refers to deleting an exe. file and a dll and also delving into the prefetched files.

What is this exe. file related to ?
The dll obviously is related to the exe. file.

Martan, have you installed any old games or software ?

  Fruit Bat /\0/\ 20:15 24 May 2007

ntvdm.exe is process that belongs to the Windows 16-bit Virtual Machine. It provides an environment for a 16-bit process to execute on a 32-bit platform. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Deleteing the corrupt files and rebooting will cause Windows to reinstall the files from the I386 folder and dll cache.
